Electric mobility is slowly gripping the Indian market, given the demand for easy and cost-free transportation. Ampere Vehicles had launched the REO electric scooter some years ago, and it can be booked on Ampere’s website or through the company’s dealerships in Bangalore. This scooter was introduced before Greaves Cotton that finished the stake buyout of the Coimbatore-based EV company.
Specifications
The REO is quite a stylish looking scooter, thanks to its conventional scooter design cues. It gets a large, distinctive headlight up-front on what appears to be a well sculpted apron. The smart indicators are mounted on the handlebar and the scooter gets a dual-tone colour theme. The footboard area seems quite spacious and the side profile has an up-swept look to it. The tail light at the rear looks stylish and is flanked by clear lens indicators. The REO comes with a fully digital instrument cluster that features a speedometer, battery charge indicator, clock, and odometer along with indicator signals and other tell-tale lights on either side. In terms of dimensions, the REO is 1730mm in length, 660mm in width and 1200mm in height. The scooter is free of vibrations and rattles. The REO takes off without any delay and manages a top speed of 25kph. However, this proves to be quite bothersome when you intend to overtake. Throttle response is linear, but a little jerky at times. In Sport mode, the scooter does around 35kph. At 68kgs, the scooter feels light and nimble. The ground clearance, is 140mm, while the scooter sports a wheelbase of 1334mm and a seat height of 735mm.
Mileage
The Ampere REO has a battery capacity of 48 V/24 Ah. In terms of range, the scooter is capable of covering 45-50kms, by ARAI.
Mechanical Parts
The seat height is pretty low, and the floorboard too is easily accessible. There’s a lot of legroom for the rider, and the ergonomics, by and large, are similar to that of a conventional scooter. The seat is very comfortable and offers decent cushioning. At its highest speed, the scooter is very surefooted and the ride is a little on the stiff side, with bumps filtering through quite easily. Around corners, despite the skinny tyres, it stays quite planted without losing confidence. The tyres provide decent levels of grip. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around an Reinforced High Strength Steel Chassis. The Ampere Rio runs on 10×3.0-10 tyres at the front and 10×3.0-10 tyres at the rear.
Features
The scooter comes loaded with a slew of features like a rear grab handle, bag hook, under-seat storage, pass light switch, mag wheels, drum brakes and a fully digital instrument cluster.
Colours
The Ampere REO is available in three shades like Red, Orange, Yellow and Blue.
